If you’re stress over your taxes, you’re not alone. At Hall & Company, our experienced CPAs have helped our clients, from small business owners to CEOs, file their taxes the right way for over 35 years. We’ve seen our fair share of hurdles that business owners face when filing.
This year, stay ahead of the game with our easy tax filing roadmap made by our team of accounting and audit experts:
Know your dates!
It might seem like this piece of advice goes without saying, but if you don’t have your calendar marked with your deadlines, it’s easy to wake up the day-of and realize with a start that you’re not prepared to file!
The tax filing deadline this year is on April 17th, 2018 – a few days later than the traditional deadline date. The reason for that is because April 15th (the date the deadline would normally fall on) is on a Sunday, while Monday, April 16th, is Emancipation Day. Therefore, the deadline is pushed back to the 17th.
If you need to brush up on your dates, Hall & Company collected all of the most important deadlines here.
Prepare your return in advanced!
Now that you know your deadline dates, don’t sit on them! Business owners should want to give themselves plenty of breathing room to organize their paperwork, ensure they have the proper forms, and have ample time to list their income.
Filing slightly early also gives you the option to pay the IRS any money you may potentially owe. When it comes to taxes and the IRS, it’s very true that the early bird gets the worm!!
Make an appointment with your CPA early!
In order to make sure you file the most accurate tax returns to the IRS, business owners will want to consult a tax and audit expert. While filing your taxes by yourself seems a cost affordable option, it might end up costing you more in the end – especially if you file incorrectly and end up stuck in an audit with the IRS! Sitting down and taking advantage of a CPA’s eye for detail and expert understanding of current tax laws will instantly take the stress out of any filing situation.
Tax season is busy season though! You’ll want to call ahead and make an appointment with a CPA in advanced before everyone’s calendars are booked!
